Self Portrait

Hey guys! I finished my self portrait in watercolor, and there are some areas that annoy me, so please let me know if anything seems off to you, anything that should be fixed, or just what you think of it. It's a terrible picture of it though, so try your best:) Thanks!

Project 3 Art History Surrealism

Culture

This is my culture project and I need ideas for the background. I was leaning towards making the background look like old paper but I want a second opinion. I want to push the contrast as well... Any ideas??

Figurative in progress

I started my figurative piece in colored pencil, I sketched it out and im just starting filling it in, let me know what you think!

Figurative

 Light or Dark

Days to cut matboard and print photos

Remember all your artwork is due on August 12th at 10am.  This is just a drop off day/time and not a day for matting.

So I will be available two days the week before for you to come in and window mat.  I will confirm those days/times, but right now they are tentatively Monday, August 5th and Friday, August 9th.  I will plan to be at York from 10am-12pm ONLY.

If you cannot make this time and need another time it's your responsibility to contact me ASAP.  Otherwise you need to window mat your pieces at home/on your own.

Good luck...the last 14 days to create work have sprung upon us!!!

Human Form Finished

Hey guys, I didn't post a 'before' picture of this one since I was on vacation and there was no internet access, but I managed to finish this one in like a week's time. :) It's a little blurry because, once again, the picture quality is not the greatest. I have a whole symbolic explanation for this one since in the requirements it said it had to represent our image of the human form, but I'll just save that for later when we present or whatever we're going to do. So yeah, I finished and this one might be my favorite so far :) it seems like each project I finish I enjoy them more and more! Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

Art history

Hey so this is my art history project. Its supposed to be Vincent Van Gogh inspired. Im not 100% happy with it (especially the sky) so if you guys could let me know what you think, that would be awesome! Thanks.

Self Portrait

So I haven't taken the picture of myself yet but I know the basics of what I want to do for the self portrait.
This is my sketch book page where I've laid out what I basically want to do. I want to have book pages covering the canvas and a side view of my face in antique kind of tones with a hand holding a paint brush painting me.

This is the canvas I have so far with the book pages covering it.

Let me know what you think so far!

Still Life

My hunger games obsession...
I love these books so I felt like I wanted to incorporate them in some way for my projects..
Do you guys like how simple the pic is, or should I have more objects, or a more detailed background?

Still Life

Hello! I've been playing around with my still life, and I have narrowed it down to three different pictures at the moment. Please let me know which one you think I should use. Also please tell me if you think they are interesting enough and have enough to them--if you think I should change something, edit the picture or the items, or anything else, let me know!

self portrait in progress

so this is what I have been working on for a self portrait, a mixture of photos that have to do with me or symbolize certain things in my life and where it's at right now with me coming through in the background. Still need to piece pictures together but this is it so far...should the photos take up the whole photo or should there be just enough photos overlapping my face to be able to tell it is me? Let me know

Self Portrait Project

Hey guys,

So my original plan for my concentration was to do a series of portraits centered around the theme of birds. I wanted to use feathers and play around with textures and such in a way that isn't extremely literal. I still plan to do so however I'm currently trying to tweak that idea and finish up with planning it. In the meantime I ended up using the bird theme for my self portrait though a little different from what I have imagine for my possible concentration. I don't know if I integrated the bird into the shot well enough so if more shading and tweaking is needed, please let me know.

cultural reference question

Hey guys, I drew these hands for my cultural reference piece and I was originally planning on doing a henna pattern on the back of the hands. But now I'm thinking about doing traditional style tattoos on the hands instead. I'm planning on painting the background red for either idea, just need to know which style to go with for the hands.

here are the hands:

and here are my sketchbook pages for the henna and tattoo ideas (might be a little hard to read):

Let me know which idea you like better/which one would be stronger because I'm kind of stuck right now.

Self Portrait

Okay so my intention was to have me looking out and have my face turned slightly so people would be able to see my hair.  In my hair I would have a knotted bird's nest intertwined with my hair.  The nest would be empty, symbolizing my senior year (going off to college soon).  This would be somewhat symbolic because there would be no bird in the nest, "the bird has flown its coop"-or whatever that phrase is that means you have grown up and left your home to go on to the next stage- would symbolize me about to leave for college and growing up.

So I'm not usually a drawer so I'm just gonna see what your guys's opinions about my drawing...
Obviously I didn't do the bird's nest yet or background... But before I did those I wanted to make sure that the skin was okay.  Also I didn't know how to get the hair to look thicker and more fine, because I keep sharpening my colored pencil every 5 seconds and it's not working

***Keep in mind I want myself in the picture to be a little tanner:) and also that I looked off of a black and white photo, not this colored one

Monday, July 15, 2013

Hey guys! Here's my completed self portrait, the picture is kinda low quality and it doesn't show a lot of the shading and what not on my person but still, hopefully you get the idea. I did the background (the trees, sand, etc.) a little more painterly and more like a pochade because I like the brushstroke-y texture in the sand and all that. I'm really happy with how it turned out, let me know what you guys think :)

Still life

I finally finished this still life drawing. Well mostly at least. The bamboo still looks kinda shabby, but I had to edit it a little in my drawing because some dead leaves were in the photo and they just did not look good. Also, the book is a little off. I really ought to add the author but it is so difficult to try and get the font size and alignment all just right. I might go back and add it but im not sure if it is worth it because it could make the book look worse. Another thing I just noticed from the photo is that I messed up the back of the buffalo a bit, so I will probably fix that later as well. So any thoughts just let me know.

Finished Product

Hey, guys! So, I edited the picture for my "leading lines" portion of one of my projects and I straightened it out. What do you think?
Also, I can't choose between these to for a portrait. Which one do you guys like better?

Still life

I was going to re-do my still life, do you think one of these pictures will work, or is one better than another?

I took this picture a few months ago and I was thinking of using it for my figurative composition. Do you think it is a good picture to use or should I do another shoot to get a different image?

Art History Revised

Hello! I tried to make the zebras stand out a bit more by darkening the colors in the background. Let me know if they are defined enough or if I need to adjust or brighten the zebras a bit more. Also if anything else stands out to you, let me know! Thanks

Art History Update

So I have already posted about my art history piece and its kind of been on the back burner for me but I have finished another section of it so I thought I would do an update post.

And I'm having some trouble getting the wrinkles in the face to have enough contrast and I was just wondering if anyone who had experience with doing watercolor faces had any advice for me?

Still Life

I have begun working on my still life piece and I think it is going pretty well. I couldn't find a sheet to drape over boxes like was recommended, so instead I used these mini shelves that I have.
(I couldn't figure out how to flip the image)
So I chose some items and placed them on different shelves and at different distances from eachother.

Photoshop Issues

Okay, so I'm looking to get new Photoshop software but I don't know the difference between all of them. Do I get Photoshop Elements or Photoshop PhotoDeluxe or another? HELP!

Tuesday-YORK day

I will be at York tomorrow if you want to come in.  I will be in earlier than planned...8:30am and will stay to see if anyone comes in around 10am as originally planned.  But if you were planning on coming you can come earlier if you would rather as I will be in A128.

Remember:  All pieces must be matted when you turn them in (they need to be matted before the turn in date as that is just a drop off time, not a time I will be staying around for very long to let you window mat your pieces).

Culture

So this is the original pic.. (my aunt's pic)
but I added some drapes in the background to it but it's definetely too busy.  I wanted to originally put a pakistani map behind her but I couldn't find one that was high quality and big enough... What do you think I should do?

I especially wanted to show the henna that they do...

and then also the types of jewelry they wear as well

what things do you recommend I should do?
