I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what kind of camera to buy. I currently have to use the really crappy camera on my phone.. It doesn't have to be
that great because I'll be using it primarily for taking pictures of my drawings/paintings and if I need a reference photo. My maximum price is $300, help would be much appreciated :)

ReplyDeleteAriana-what are you planning on using the camera for? If your max is $300 I don't think you will be able to get a DSL once you add in the price of the lens, etc.
ReplyDeleteSo I would look at different Point and Shoot cameras. Canon and Nikon have always been great brands. If you want something larger you might look at things like the Canon PowerShot SX500. But you could also just get a cheaper camera like the Nikon Coolpix P310. I would look at these in a store (Best Buy, Calumet Photo, etc.) But then research them online BEFORE buying. Read reviews and also shop around for prices. I've found the best prices typically at amazon.com or bhphotovideo.com
But it really depends on what you want to use the camera for...just every day stuff I would go cheaper w/ a smaller Point and Shoot. If you want a better zoom for vacations, traveling, etc. and don't mind a larger camera something like the first camera I mentioned would be better.
Hope that helps!
Former AP Art student here -- I agree with Ms. Manning! Anything that lets you manually adjust the focus - automatic focus can be terrible at times!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely buy online, and get a warranty if possible. If you look on Ebay, you might luck out and find a company selling the product that will have no sales tax (which could easily be $30) and might have free shipping :)
If some prices are still super high, you can look for refurbished cameras. This means they've been used, but re-manufactured and are practically new, but can't be sold as new.
Don't forget to invest in a good SD card! I got a 32gb transcend level 10 SD card for only $15 once. That's one hell of a deal.
